Westville, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa Property
Westville is a satelite town in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
that is situated 8km inland from the Durban city centre. It now forms
part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality, which also includes Durban.
The town was laid out on the farm Westville (named in honour of Martin
West, the British lieutenant-governor of Natal) which was formed in 1847.
Westville is a fast growing decentralised hub of Durban. Westville
is well known as a green surbub and has well regarded schools such as, Westville
Senior Primary, Westville Boys' High School and Westville Girls'
High School. A 2 square kilometre campus of University of KwaZulu-Natal
(former University of Durban-Westville) is situated in Westville, as
is the Varsity College (Westville campus) which shares premises with the Westville
Country Club, The International Hotel School (Durban campus) based at The Westville
Hotel, and The Fusion Cooking School situated in Westville North opposite
Atholl Heights Primary School (Grades 4-7).
Westville is an established upmarket suburb, with the fourth most expensive
average property prices in the province after Umhlanga, Durban North
and the Berea.
There are several churches in Westville, including the Westville
Catholic Church, Our Lady of Lourdes, situated in the town centre, the Westville
Baptist Church and St Elizabeth's Anglican Church.
Westville is home to the 3 shopping malls. The Pavilion, one of the
largest shopping centres in South Africa, Westwood mall situated at the bottom
end of westville off the m13 freeway & Westville mall.
Westville is also home to Durban's prison which is one of the largest
prisons in the country. With six separate buildings inside the complex, Westville
Prison holds up to 13,000 inmates
